Power Boat School
Based on the Menai Strait we offer a range of powerboat courses. We are an accredited RYA Powerboat Training Centre and our powerboat instructors are highly experienced. The boat is a Humber 6.0 metre RIB, fitted to RYA/MCA specifications.
Porth Daniel will train to the RYA (coastal) syllabus, but will also give specific attention to the local conditions of the Menai Strait.
Powerboat Level 1 Course
Introduction to boating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment.
1 day course, £100 per person. Minimum 2 persons.

Powerboat Level 2 Course
This two day course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It includes close quarter handling, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery and collision regulations.
2 day course, £200 per person. Minimum 2 persons.

Direct Assessment for Level 2
This is a half day assessment for experienced and already competent powerboat users who wish to obtain the formal level 2 qualification.
½ day assessment, £100 per person

Intermediate Powerboat
Candidates should be competent to the standard of Level 2 and this course is designed to teach up to the standard required to complete a short coastal passage by day. It is strongly recommended that the candidates hold a First Aid and VHF Operators certificate.
2 day course, £200 per person. Minimum 2 persons. |
Safety
This course is designed to introduce techniques used to provide race safety cover and assist with the management of races. Candidates are required to hold a Powerboat Level 2 certificate.

Advanced Powerboat Training
This course teaches boat handling, seamanship, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to handle a planning powerboat safely in rough conditions and at night. Candidates should be qualified to Intermediate Level and have a thorough knowledge of navigation to the level of Dayskipper Theory. First Aid and VHF Certificates are required.
2 day course. £325 per person. Minimum 2 persons.

International Certificate of Competence (I.C.C.)
If you are planning to hire a powerboat whilst on holiday abroad or thinking of taking your own boat, you will need to hold an International Certificate of Competence.
You can obtain an ICC in one of two ways.
1. Undertake and successfully pass an ICC test (see below), or
2. Submit to the RYA a copy of a qualifying certificate of competence eg Powerboat Level 2.
The ICC exam combines theory and practical tests to demonstrate the level of competence and capability required to justify the award.
1 day ICC assessment, £125 per person. Minimum 2 persons.

Shore Based Courses |
VHF/SRC
Covers all aspects of the use of VHF maritime radio and includes training and assessment for the RYA Short Range Certificate.
1 day course, £95 per person. Minimum 2 persons. |
First Aid
This is a beginners course which assumes no prior experience. It introduces basic first aid techniques, especially suited to problems that may occur on board with an emphasis on realistic scenarios.
1 day course, £95 per person. Minimum 2 persons.
